Why You Should Sandblast

Sandblasting or abrasive blasting is used for many reasons but most importantly, its used as a method of removing scale from steel. In any coating process the condition of your base is your weakest link. The best systems can fail if the substrate is not properly prepared.

Leaving rust on a substrate will only allow it to continue to form under your coating and at some point your coating will bubble up and pop as the oxidation pushes up on it. This spot failure will open the protective coating up to the elements and the rest of the surface will quickly begin to fail as moisture creeps in from the breaks.

This is why we always pre blast steel substrates when possible

Why You Should Sandblast Aluminum Parts

Yes, in many cases aluminum parts and assemblies should be cleaned and blasted to SSPC-SP7 finish. This accomplishes several things:

Cleans all surface grime
Breaks the glossy finish on most aluminums
Creates an anchoring profile
Smooth’s out welds, scratches and seams

The other uses and benefits from pre blasting a substrate are:

Smooth out welds and imperfections
Create a profile that the coatings can anchor into
On Galv to remove top layer of galv salt.
Clean off impurities from surfaces.
Remove embrittlement from laser cut edges.

Plating & Pretreatments

Chem-Film, Iridite, Chromate Alodine Finishes

We supply our customers with high quality Chem-Film pretreatments, from Non Hex clear to yellow finishes.

Our systems are designed to support Mil- Spec MIL-C-5541 finish. We have large tank lines and smaller ones from 8’ x 5’ x 5’ to smaller basket lines.
